Due to their versatility, β-keto ylides, α-halo ylides, diazomethylphosphonates, halomethylphosphonates and enolphosphates constitute a class of useful phosphorus reagents for the synthesis of alkynes. This review attempts to summarize their applications and focus on the role of each reagent as synthetic intermediates.
