Significance

The synthesis of β²,²,³-amino acid precursors via a copper-catalyzed decarboxylative Mannich-type reaction is described. Hydro­lysis of these precursors under acidic conditions then allows for the preparation of enantiomerically enriched amino acid derivatives.
