Tetraphenylphosphonium hydrogendifluoride, Ph4P+HF2-, has proven to be an effective and convenient catalyst for both the aldol reaction of enol silyl ethers with carbonyl compounds and the Grignard-type addition reaction of silylacetylenes to carbonyl compounds.
