Palladium-catalyzed hydroesterification (hydroalkoxy-carbonylation) of 6-methoxy-2-naphthylethene was found to proceed under 10 to 60 atm of carbon monoxide in an alcoholcosolvent mixture at 50 °C to 100 °C to afford 2-(6-methoxy-2-naphthyl)propanoate esters with excellent regioselectivity.
