A Hydrocarbon Skeleton with Twelve Identical Functional Groups: Synthesis of a Dodeca Host Compound The synthesis of a twelvefold benzylic bromide 9 was achieved by a stepwise procedure utilizing the benzylic ether as a protective group. The benzylic ether imparts a very good solubility to all steps and is easily cleaved to the respective bromide in high yield. The utility of this multibinding "anchor" skeleton is shown by the successful synthesis of a new inclusion compound a dodeca host.
