Abdominal Aortic Aneurysms—Gender Aspects on Prevalence, Treatment, and Concurrent Aneurysms

Abstract

Fewer women than men suffer from abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAAs). The women who are diagnosed with this fatal disease are more generally diseased, have a higher risk of concurrent thoracic aortic aneurysms, have a lower chance of endovascular aortic repair treatment, have a higher complication rate, and presumably, have a poorer survival rate than men with AAAs and other women in the population. This is an overview on prevalence, treatment, outcome, and multilevel aneurysm disease in women with AAAs compared with men.
