Significance

Pestalone was isolated in 2001 from a marine fungus of the Pestalotia genus. It exhibits potent activity against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus and vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium. In 2008, Che and co-workers isolated racemic metabolites from the plant endophytic fungus Pestalotiopsis adusta, which they called the pestalachlorides.
