Many peptides of aquatic origin involving unusual amino acids have interesting biological activities as well as unique structures. In addition, the scarce availability of these peptides has prompted synthetic chemists to explore their synthesis suitable for the production of sufficient quantities. The proposed structures will be firmly established by chemical synthesis. This review describes recent efforts on the synthesis of unusual amino acids and on the total synthesis of various peptides of aquatic origin.
