Several ways of synthesis of N-N-P-N-N containing macrocycles are described. These methods allowed the isolation of more than 120 macrocycles of different sizes, incorporating phosphorus atoms in several coordinences (tri, tetra, penta coordination), several heteroatoms (silicon, zirconium, titanium) and different types of functions (C=N, P-Cl, P-N3). The complexation ability of these macrocycles as well as their versatile reactivity, leading to more complex systems such as multimacrocycles and phosphorus cryptands are also described.
