The explosive hazard of widely used diazotransfer reagents has been measured. Since no single reagent is suitable for all uses, selection must be based on minimization of hazard and ease of purification of the product. In general, azidotransfer reagents are more energetic than diazotransfer reagents, therefore more hazardous to the researcher. Users of azidotransfer reagents are invited to determine the inherent hazards of these compounds.
