Starting from 4-(3-hydroxypropyl)-4-nitro-1,7-heptanediol, a series of polyfunctional nitromethane derivatives, 1,3′,7-trisubstituted 4-nitro-4-propylheptanes, has been prepared and spectroscopically correlated; these derivatives validate methodologies for surface derivativization of specifically sized cascade polymers.
