Significance

Salinamide A was isolated from various Streptomyces species. It inhibits bacterial RNA polymerases without affecting human RNA polymerases. It is also a potent anti-inflammatory agent. The apex of the synthesis was the chemistry used to construct the phenylglycine fragment D.
