Significance

Enantioselective cyanosilylation reactions of several aldehydes (mainly aromatic aldehydes) are realized through the combined use of a salen-aluminum(III) complex as Lewis acid catalyst (1 mol% loading) and trioctylphosphine oxide as Lewis base catalyst (10 mol% loading). Good yields are always obtained, while the enan­tiomeric excess ranges from modest to good.
