Immobilization of Bisoxazoline-Palladium on a Single-Crystal Silicon Surface

Significance

Bisoxazoline (BOX) 1 reacted with Si(111)-H in mesitylene at 160 °C to afford Si-BOX 2 via thermal hydrosilylation. Si-BOX 2 was treated with a solution of Pd(OAc)2 in CH2Cl2 to give Si-BOX-Pd 3. ICP-MS measurements of 3 revealed that palladium was incorporated at a concentration of 0.21 nmol/cm2. The Si-BOX-Pd chip 3 was used as catalyst in the aerobic oxidation of benzylic alcohols 4 leading to the corresponding carbonyl compounds 5a-d with high TON (up to 500,000).
