Significance

C 2-Symmetric binaphthyl- or biphenyl-bridged diphosphine ligands BINAP, MeO-­BIPHEP, SEGPHOS, P-Phos and their analogues are well known as highly efficient chiral ligands for a variety of transition-metal-catalyzed asymmetric transformations. The authors report a diastereoselective synthesis of a series of C3*-TunePhos chiral diphosphine ligands. The synthetic utility of these ligands was explored for the ruthenium-­catalyzed asymmetric hydrogenation of β-keto ­esters and excellent ee values were achieved.
