Significance
The authors have reported the first examples of asymmetric Heck reactions using aryl and vinyl chlorides. The scope is good for aryl substrates and limited for vinyl ones, though excellent enantioselectivities are usually seen. Vinyl triflates are more sluggish under these reaction conditions and only one successful example of an aryl triflate is shown. The reactions with aryl chlorides can also be executed under microwave heating to reduce reaction times, though the enantioselectivities are usually lower.
