Significance

Cross-linked polymer networks formed from epoxides are widely used in construction and microelectronics. The liquid monomers (or resins) are cured by cross-linking and this process is generally accompanied by some shrinkage, which can lead to voids and poor adhesion. The SOE-DOPOMA monomer minimizes the shrinkage and the incorporation of a phosphorous center gives flame-retardant properties.
