Significance

(-)-Stemomide is an alkaloid isolated from Stemona tuberosa. A markworthy step of the synthesis is formation of lactone I in the Cu(II)-mediated bromolactonisation reaction, which served as an alternative to troublesome hydroboration attempts to form J.
