Significance

Taranabant (MK-0364) suppresses appetite because it is a cannabinoid-1 receptor inverse agonist. This chromatography-free, multi­kilogram-scale synthesis features dynamic kinetic resolution (D to F) in the Noyori asymmetric hydrogenation that established two adjacent stereogenic centers in a single step.
