Significance

The authors describe the first chiral bidentate phosphorus donor ligand library based on their previously reported hydrogen-bond self-assembly ligands. Many of the combinations provided quantitative conversion, with a subset of these giving very high enantioselectivity (>94% ee). The rhodium-catalyzed hydrogenation of acetamidoacrylate, methyl-α-acetyl-amino cinnamate and dimethylitaconate were all shown to proceed with high conversion and enantioselectivity.
