Significance
Littoralisone (from the plant Verbena littoralis) enhances the neurotrophic properties of nerve growth factor (NGF). Brasoside is believed to be an intermediate in the biosynthesis of Littoralisone. This first total synthesis confirms the relative and absolute stereochemistries of the target molecules.
