Abstract

Ethyl acetoacetate and a range of aldehydes in the presence of ammonium acetate are converted into 1,4-dihydropyridines under mild and solvent-free conditions with good to excellent yields.

General: Chemicals were purchased from Fluka, Merck, Riedel-deHaen AG and Aldrich chemical companies. Yields refer to isolated products. All 1,4-dihydropyridines were characterized by comparison of their spectroscopic and physical data with authentic sampales synthesized by reported procedures. [8]
