Complete Pancreatic Ectopia in a Gastric Duplication Cyst: A Case Report and Review of the Literature

Abstract

Ectopic tissue can be histologically detected in gastric duplication cysts. The authors describe the case of a complete pancreatic ectopia in a prenatally diagnosed symptomatic gastric duplication cyst in a 6-month-old male infant. Surgical removal of the cystic formation was curative. In view of the rarity of the lesion, a full clinical and diagnostic classification of the condition proved possible only after radical surgical resection and histological examination. Immunohistochemical investigation enabled us to detect the complete pancreatic ectopia.

Résumé

Il est bien connu que les duplications kystiques de l'estomac peuvent inclure du tissus ectopique. Les auteurs décrivent le cas d'un enfant mâle soumi à l'âge de six mois à l'ablation d'une duplication kystique de l'estomac découverte à l'échographie prénatale. La kyste avait rapidement augmenté de volume après la naissance avec des signes inflammatoires importants. L'ablation du kyste qui contenait du tissus pancréatique exocrine et endocrine a mené à une régression complète des symptomes. Le diagnostic définitif a été acquis par l'examen immunohistochimique.

Resumen

En las duplicaciones gástricas puede haber tejido ectópico. Los autores describen un caso de ectopia pancreática total en una duplicación gástrica quística diagnosticada prenatalmente y tratada a los 6 meses. La extirpación de la lesión quística fue curativa. A causa de la rareza de la lesión solamente se hizo el diagnóstico completo tras el examen anatomopatológico. La investigación inmunohistoquímica permitió detectar la ectopia pancreática completa.

Zusammenfassung

Ektopisches Gewebe kann histologisch in Magenduplikaturen gefunden werden. Die Autoren beschreiben einen Fall einer kompletten Pankreasektopie bei einer pränatal diagnostizierten zystischen Magenduplikatur. Bei dem 6 Monate alten männlichen Säugling wurde die zystische Formation exstirpiert. Die histologische Untersuchung ergab eine komplette Pankreasektopie.
