Abstract

The imines derived in situ from aldehydes and amines undergo smoothly nucleophilic addition with allyltributylstannane in 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate ([bmim]BF4) ionic liquid to afford the corresponding homoallylic amines in high yields with high selectivity. The recovered ionic liquid can be recycled in four to five runs with gradual decrease in activity.
