With the help of the photothermal effect of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs), the hydration
of the arylacetylenes to synthesize carbonyl compounds is successfully achieved. The
reaction proceeds smoothly for various substrates and the ketone products are obtained
in good isolated yields up to 91%. The successful gram-scale and sunlight-exposure
experiments illustrate the potential application of this method in the future organic
syntheses.
