Introduction

Internal hernias are rare but should be taken into account during diagnostic work-up of children presenting with signs and symptoms of intestinal obstruction. Treves field hernia, an internal hernia, presents as transmesenteric hernia or as mesenteric pouch hernia, occurring at any age. The hernial orifice is formed by a congenital defect in the mesentery of the terminal ileum. Treves field pouch hernia has frequently been reported to be associated with intestinal malposition.

We report on two children who presented years after uncomplicated correction of gastroschisis with Treves field transmesenteric hernia. To our knowledge, an association between gastroschisis and Treves field hernia has not been mentioned yet.
