Reduction of Nitroarenes with N2H4˙H2O Using Fe-Phen/C

Significance

An iron-phenanthroline complex supported on carbon (Fe-phen/C) was prepared by mixing Fe(OAc)2/1,10-phenanthroline complex and vulcan XC72R carbon powder followed by pyrolysis (eq. 1). Fe-phen/C catalyzed the reduction of nitroarenes with hydrazine hydrate to give the corresponding anilines in up to 99% yield (eq. 2).
