Significance

An Au/DNA nanohybrid (1) catalyzed the oxidative amidation of alcohols with amines in the presence of LiOH˙H2O in water under oxygen atmosphere to afford the corresponding amides in up to 96% yield (31 examples). The catalyst was recovered by centrifugation and reused four times with slight loss of its catalytic activity for the oxidative amidation of aniline with benzyl alcohol (1st reuse; 89% yield, 2nd reuse; 85% yield, 3rd reuse; 82% yield, 4th reuse; 80% yield).
