Significance

A diastereoselective reduction of aryl ketones catalyzed by ruthenium is reported. Under rapid enolization-protonation of the substrate in the presence of a base, the strong catalyst preference for one out of four possible transition states also successfully rendered a dynamic kinetic resolution.
