Significance

The authors describe the Ir-catalyzed enantioselective C-H bond activation of 2-(alkylamino)pyridines with alkenes. Despite the development of C-H bond cleavage by transition-metal catalysts, sp³ C-H bond activation is still challenging and limited to reactive positions. Herein, a cationic iridium catalyst enabled the first example of enantioselective secondary sp³ C-H activation of a methylene group, which is not at an allylic or benzylic position.
