Ureteric Catheter Encrustation 6 Weeks Following Paediatric Laparoscopic Pyeloplasty: A Case Report and Review of the Literature
Publication History
Publication Date:
18 February 2011 (online)

Introduction
The use of indwelling ureteric catheters following laparoscopic pyeloplasty is well established. Multiple complications have been described in the paediatric population including urinary tract and wound infections, urine leaks, bladder spasms and pain. In this report, we describe the first known case of acute stent encrustation 6 weeks following laparoscopic pyeloplasty. This complication precluded removal of the ureteric catheter at the 6 week time-point. Multiple interventions were required including endoscopy, laser lithotripsy and extracorporeal shockwave lithotripsy (ESWL) before removal was possible.
