Hiatus Hernia after Laparoscopically Assisted Gastric Pull-Up for Esophageal Replacement

Introduction
Since many years gastric pull-up has represented a standard procedure for esophageal replacement in children with long-gap esophageal atresia or caustic esophageal injury [1]. Laparoscopically assisted gastric pull-up for long-gap esophageal atresia was introduced in 2003 [2], and since then several case reports and small series on its feasibility and outcome have been published [3] [4] [5] [6].
Hiatus hernia is a very rare complication after conventional gastric pull-up [7] [8]. In a recent publication, Stanwell et al. [6] analyzed 7 children who had undergone laparoscopically assisted gastric transposition. 2 of these patients developed hiatus hernia and required laparoscopic repair. We add another case with hiatus hernia and a complicated postoperative course.
