Significance

Substituted 1,8-dialkynylnaphthalenes (1a-c) contain rigid parallel triple bonds which participate in a one-step iodocyclization to give fluoranthenes (2a), (8H)cyclopenta[a]ace­naphthylenes (2b), pyridino[a]acenaphthylenes (2c), and indeno[2,1-a]phenalenes (2d) with high selectivity and in good yield.
