Significance

The trioxacarcins are a diverse class of natural products that have potential for the treatment of human cancer cell lines. To date, 20 trioxacarcins have been characterized and all are very closely related in structure to the natural product DC-45-A2. In order to further investigate the potential of the trioxacarcins as anticancer agents, an efficient route to DC-45-A2 was sought to provide access to quantities sufficient for biological evaluation.
