Significance

A new method for the direct and ­regioselective borylation of a wide range of (het­ero)aromatics has been disclosed. The reaction utilizes electrophilic catecholato-ligated borenium cations that undergo a boron analogue of Friedel-Crafts reaction with various arenes.
