Rigid Thienothiophene Blocks for Electropolymerization

Significance

The authors present three synthetic pathways for symmetric and unsymmetric derivatives of 3,6-dialkoxythieno[3,2-b]thiophenes, which are precursors of conjugated polymers with many potential applications. Among the three routes, the last route which is depicted above, is of particular interest due to the availability of the reagent, the formation of both symmetric and unsymmetric products, and the simplicity of one-pot reactions.
