Significance

The authors synthesized an unsubstituted polyphenylene with a degree of polymerization (DPn) of 77. Polymer 2 was recovered in 61% yield with most of the loss arising from complications in the recovery of the insoluble product. Despite mass loses, the desilation was virtually quantitative.
