Significance

Dibenzocyclooctatetraenes (DBCOTs) constitute a class of intriguing compounds because of its anti-aromaticity and bent structure. Nevertheless, selective synthesis of DBCOTs remains challenging. Herein, a straightforward and selective synthesis of [a,c]-DBCOTs 3 through palladium-catalyzed fomal [4+4] homo-annulation reaction of borylalkenyl iodobenzenes 2, which are readily prepared by stereoselective cross-coupling of 1,1-diborylalkenes 1, is communicated.
