Significance

Oxidized graphite supported iron oxide nanoparticles (GIONPs) catalyzed the alkylation of arenes under reflux conditions to afford the corresponding products in up to 98% yield (21 examples). In the reaction of p-xylene and 2-chlorobutane, the catalyst was recovered by filtration and reused four times (4th reuse: 40% yield).
