Significance

The authors synthesize a precursor polymer to a π-conjugated poly(cyclopropenium). The polymer CpO was synthesized by electrochemical polymerization of CpM. Conversion into the cyclopropenium polymers, z-CpO and z-CpO-H, was observed in the presence of trifluoroacetic acid. A carbonyl polymer, CO, was similarly synthesized and the electrical properties were compared by cyclic voltammetry.
