Unsuspected Sacrococcygeal Teratoma in a Child Presenting with Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia: A Case Report
Publication History
Publication Date:
22 February 2010 (online)

Introduction
Autoimmune hemolytic anemia (AIHA) can be induced by a variety of causes. The tumors that induce AIHA are usually hematological neoplasms such as malignant lymphoma and chronic lymphocytic leukemia [1] [2]. The association of AIHA with teratoma is relatively rare. In most of the cases studied so far, ovarian teratomas and a few non-ovarian teratomas were responsible for autoimmune erythrocyte destruction, which abated with removal of the tumor [3] [4] [5] [6]. We report here on a young boy suffering from AIHA, which rapidly disappeared after excision of a sacrococcygeal teratoma.
