Significance

Ph₃P-modified Ru/CeO₂ (3Ph₃P-Ru/CeO₂) was prepared by immobilization of [RuCl₂(CO)₃]₂ onto CeO₂ followed by the treatment with Ph₃P under hydrogen. The 3Ph₃P-Ru/CeO₂ composite catalyzed the direct C-H arylation of aromatic compounds 1 with aryl halides 2 to give the corresponding biaryls 3 in 53-98% isolated yield (12 examples).
