Significance

A novel synthesis of potentially bioactive pyrroloazepinones is disclosed based on the catalytic intramolecular cyclization of alkyne-substituted 1H-pyrrole-2-carboxylic acid amides. These substrates readily form pyrrolo[3,2-c]azepin-ones in the presence of either H₂PtCl₆ or AuCl₃.
