Significance

Iriomoteolide 3a was recently isolated from marine algae and shows anticancer properties with potent cytotoxicity in the low nM range. The synthesis of this unusual 15-membered macrocycle was completed using a clever ring-closing metathesis (RCM) strategy utilizing the power of silicon-directed reactivity.
