Significance

Reported is the triphenylphosphine-mediated reaction of acetylene diesters with α-arylamino ketones to form 2,5-dihydropyrroles. The mechanism is proposed without evidence and involves sequential addition of tri­phenylphosphine and amine to the acetylene, followed by cyclization. A thorough mechanistic investigation is warranted and may provide useful results for further application.
