Neonatal Gastrointestinal Mucormycosis Clinically Mimicking Necrotizing Enterocolitis
Publication History
Publication Date:
30 April 2009 (online)

Introduction
Mucormycosis is a rare opportunistic fungal infection with a frequently fatal outcome [12]. One third of patients with gastrointestinal mucormycosis were diagnosed as necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) preoperatively [7]. However; a few cases with intestinal obstruction have also been reported so far [6]. We report a case of neonatal mucormycosis/zygomycosis diagnosed following laparotomy and resection for presumptive NEC.
