Significance

The massadines are highly polar, densely functionalized alkaloids isolated from marine sources. The synthesis depicted includes an improved version of the silver picolinate oxidation of the 2-aminoimidazolidine ring in B previously used by Baran and co-workers in their synthesis of axinellamines.
