Significance
Secu’amamine is isolated from the Securinega and Phyllanthus plants. Members of the family show antimalarial and antibacterial activity and they have been used in the clinic for treatment of poliomyelitis and chronic aplastic anemia. This first total synthesis of secu’amamine forms the tetracyclic skeleton by a conjugate addition-intramolecular aldol addition-lactonization pathway.
