Significance
Quinocarcin was isolated from the culture broth of Streptomyces melunovinuceus. It shows good antitumor activity against a range of cancer cell lines. The cytotoxicity of quinocarcin is caused by autoredox disproportionation of the oxazolidine, which reduces molecular oxygen to superoxide and causes oxidative damage to DNA.
