Introduction

Lamellar macular hole (LMH) was described by Gass as an oval red lesion using slit lamp biomicroscopy [1]. Recently, the diagnostic criterion of the LMH is defined by spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) [2]. Epiretinal proliferation (EP) is homogenous material that covers the surface of the retina and is seen frequently in eyes with an LMH [3]. Even though the natural course of LMH is relatively stable, a tendency of morphological progression characterized by an increase in LMH diameter, a decrease in foveal thickness, and disruption of the ellipsoid zone (EZ) is known [4], [5]. Our knowledge of the morphological changes in EP associated with LMH is limited [4], [5]. The EP area may increase with the progression of the LMH [5]. Cystoid changes within EP have been reported in cases accompanied by various retinal pathologies [4], [6], [7]. We present a case of an LMH associated with EP, without any other accompanying retinal disorder that developed cystoid changes within the EP during a long-term follow-up of 8 1/2 years.
